Thermostats cause more divorces than adultery

I have had it. I am a pretty chill girl. I can live in a house where my daughter runs a pet adoption service. Constantly getting attached to cute furry creatures then they are suddenly gone. I can accept that I can’t hold the remote to the television at all. I can tolerate a great deal, but this crap is a bridge too far.

I am declaring a silent war! That is all of the energy I have for the one line I will draw in the sand.

This is going to be a war of attrition. I will wear her down. June 6, 2022 will be our 40th wedding anniversary. We might not make it to that wonderful milestone. Couples therapy couldn’t budge two intransigent hard heads. I have had it.

I don’t work in a climate controlled office. I don’t bring a sweater to work in case I get chilly. I don’t get chilly at work. I get either freezing cold and have to add layers or blistering hot and shorts and t-shirts don’t offer relief. So when I finally get home I like a comfortable home. Comfortable to me of course.

If one becomes chilly one can add a layer of clothing. I get hot flashes from my medication and I should not have to be uncomfortable in my own home. 77 degrees is way too warm for summer air conditioning. My son said “ If my thermostat reads 77 that means my air is broken!” 77 is the go to for my cold blooded cold hearted lovely wife. I like it at 75. Everyone knows 75 is the temperature that normal rational folks keep their a/c systems at. This is Florida and we mostly use a/c , but this year my wife has added a new battlefront,heat! She puts her housecoat on at 72 and sets the heat at 75 in the winter! Our president said long ago that 68 degrees is the American thing to do. Of course this was 50 years ago.

I will likely lose this war and I have a philosophical problem with giving up on marriage, but we are so far apart.

So I set the thermostat to a normal rational number and before long I can feel that something is wrong. I casually walk by the thermostat and set it correctly.

I go to bed first because I get up crazy early, so she always wins. She has always won these wars because she is more dedicated. Lately I have taken to waking up in a sweat and going out and adjusting the thermostat and getting a few hours of comfortable sleep. Of course I put it back where she had it before I walk out of the door. I’m no dummy.
