Sublingual vs Oral Consumption

Even if people know that alternate consumption methods exist and one can easily avoid smoking weed and still get its benefits, which method would be the most or least effective is unknown to them.

There are majorly three ways one can consume weed. By inhaling, that includes smoking and vaping, ingesting, that includes oral and sublingual consumption, and topical, that includes topical and transdermal application of weed infused products.

Within the ingestion method, there are two different methods of consumption that may seem similar when one chooses to consume weed but the difference lies in the process, effects, and potency that one may receive. Even if both the methods involve taking weed or cannabis oil orally, that is through the mouth, the track followed by the oil to enter the bloodstream is extremely different and hence the results are discrete.

The experience one gets after oral and sublingual consumption is completely different. Although both consumption methods include inserting cannabis in the mouth, there is no other similarity in the methods.

One can expect to feel the effects of cannabis between 30 to 60 minutes if they have consumed it orally and immediately, if they have sublingually taken the cannabis. Due to the track followed, cannabis consumed orally remains in the system for pretty longer than any other consumption method. Sublingually consumed cannabis would not last for long. The psychoactive effects one expects from cannabis are efficiently delivered by the sublingual method. The bioavailability of compounds when consumed orally is extremely poor and the THC gets catabolized by the enzymes present in the liver, whereas, a large amount of THC gets easy access to the bloodstream, sublingually.

Which consumption method is better depends on what the person is looking for. If someone wants long lasting effects that would not be a lot overwhelming, easy to consume and decent in taste, they can choose edibles. If the preference is to get the stronger effects of THC or cannabis immediately for a short period of time, sublingual methods of consumption shall be more suitable.
