Giving myself a break while still honing my craft
Writing a book is a huge endeavor and should not be taken lightly, regardless of your genre. It is a long process of drafting, editing, designing, marketing, and more that I’m still learning how to do just right for the first time.
I am very passionate about the subject of my book, but I do get tired of writing and agonizing over so many words. How do I take a break without getting out of rhythm?
Why, I write articles, of course.
It wasn’t that easy to decide that’s what to do or that I would even like it. And then I wrote my first one and it was liberating. Having my first complete piece of work that I can put out there into the wild ether of the internet for some of our world to see that I am, in fact, a published writer with material out there was exhilarating.
I made a layout of all my chapters and sub-sections. I made good titles and have a blueprint for a work that I am already proud of. And yet, very often when I finish a paragraph, section, or session, I can look back and think “is this good enough” or worse “I hate what I wrote; This sucks.”
If you Google “imposter syndrome” or simply “insecurity”, you’ll find this is about as textbook of an example as you could get, but still it is a real thing that creators face. Any decent one, at least, will worry whether or not their material is good enough not only to ask for the audience’s attention but also that their material will actually do them some good.
